2000 - Traditional Tomoe Kite

J.R. Tolman, recognized master at traditional kite making with paper and bamboo, returned us to the roots of kiting with a faithful copy of the Japanese tomoe kite.

Participants started off Friday night making a minature version to help understand the process.

Saturday, everyone starded painting with traditional sumi inks on their washi paper sails. After long hours, everyone had a great looking sail.

Sunday was devoted to making the traditional bamboo frames for the kites. A real sense of accomplishment was felt by all when they finished their kites.
